Russia-China university founding treaty to be signed on Sept 5

MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) - A founding treaty establishing a Russian-Chinese university on the premises of Moscow State University will be signed on September 5, rector of Moscow State University (MGU) Viktor Sadovnichy told a news conference on Thursday. “On September 5, I will sign a founding treaty in Beijing, this will be a final document establishing the university. We hope that after this the way to start construction will be open,” Sadovnichy said, adding that lawyers had already approved the document. After signing the founding treaty development of educational programmes will begin, he said. Most issues related with the start of work in the joint university are already settled, Sadovnichy said. Meanwhile, an inter-governmental agreement should be concluded that will permit Moscow State University to actually issue higher educational certificates to graduates of another higher educational establishment, as the university did not give such possibility until recently, the MGU rector said. First students can be admitted in the Russian-Chinese University in Shenzhen already in 2015, the MGU rector said. At first 500 students will study in eight specialities, including culture and arts, management and audit, economy and finances, philology and literature and information technologies. The number of students and vocations will be expanded in the future. The initiative of creating a Russian-Chinese university on the MGU premises has been actively worked out since the second half of 2013. The MGU main partner is Beijing Polytechnic University. In May a memorandum on co-operation in this issue was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to China. China has funded construction of the university. MGU’s contribution in creation of the university will be academic programmes and scientific developments. Around 80 percent of students will be Chinese and 20 percent will be from Russia and Central Asian states. Learn more on itar-tass.com
