Russia largest donor of UN WFP projects in Tajikistan - program’s executive director

DUSHANBE, July 30. /TASS/. Russia is one of the largest financial donors of humanitarian projects of UN World Food Program (WFP) in Tajikistan, WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin told TASS on Thursday. Cousin, who is taking part in the regional consultation meeting for South and Central Asia in Dushanbe, said the volume of financial aid provided by Russia exceeded $66.4 million last year adding that more than $9 million were distributed to Tajikistan. WFP Executive Director also noted that Russia makes significant contribution to supporting WFP humanitarian projects in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Somalia, Jordan and several other countries. Russia is one of 20 largest donors, having contributed more than $250 million over the last 5 years, Cousin continued. She said that during her recent visit to Moscow, an agreement was reached with Russian authorities that Moscow will provide KAMAZ trucks to WFP. Such trucks are very important for humanitarian cargo delivery to North African countries and Afghanistan. Read more
