Russia, OIC hold first consultations on combating terrorism - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. Russia and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have held the first consultations on combating international terrorism, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday after the meeting that was held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on Sunday. The Russian delegation was headed by Russian president’s special representative for international co-operation in combating terrorism and transnational organised crime Alexander Zmeyevsky; OIC delegation - by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Abdullah Alim. “The sides discussed a wide range of issues of international co-operation in the fight against terrorism, in particular, the tasks of countering the spread of terrorist and extremist ideology and terrorism financing, ways of strengthening the international legal framework for counter-terrorism within the regional and universal framework,” the Russian ministry said. Russia and OIC - the largest after the United Nations international organisation bringing together 57 Islamic countries (Russia has an observer status in OIC) - have agreed to continue a regular dialogue on counter-terrorism issues in the bilateral format, as well as at the United Nations and with possible involvement of interested regional and international structures.
