Russia, Thailand should seek to double trade, says premier

BANGKOK, April 8./TASS/. Moscow and Bangkok need to boost trade ties removing the existing barriers, to double trade to $10 billion, visiting Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said after talks with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha in the Thai capital on Wednesday. "Last year our trade grew by almost 20 percent, making up according to different assessments between four and five billion dollars," Medvedev said, adding that the pace has continued into this year despite economic difficulties. "We would really want to achieve the level of $10 billion, that is why it is necessary to expand trade, ties, increase the level of industrial cooperation, remove trade barriers," the Russian prime minister said. He also said ties should get a boost in the industrial sector, including the already signed contracts for the supply of Russian Superject planes. Russia’s KAMAZ truck manufacturer was already operating in the region, Medvedev said, noting that some offers in the fuel-and-energy sector were fixed in a memorandum. Read more
