Russia, Thailand strengthen comprehensive cooperation

BANGKOK, February 12 (TNA) - Russia and Thailand are developing comprehensive security cooperation, including that on anti-transnational terrorism, crime, drug and human trafficking, as well as responses to new forms of threats. Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Werachon Sukondhapatipak told journalists that the confirmation for the development happened when Russian Security Council Secretary-General Nikolai Patrushev, who is leading his delegation to visit Thailand this week, paid a courtesy on Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha in Bangkok on February 11. The deputy spokesman stated that the visiting Russian delegates, who are also scheduled to hold a meeting with Thailand's National Security Council (NSC) officials during their stay in Bangkok, want to seriously boost security cooperation with Thailand and both sides appreciated growing bilateral ties. The deputy spokesman said while welcoming the Russian security delegation, the Thai prime minister, in turn, expressed his support for full cooperation with Moscow on efforts to tackle terrorism, transnational crime and computer crime. The deputy spokesman revealed that the Thai prime minister also proposed a plan for long-term bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Bangkok. Besides, both sides agreed to increase the number of Russian visitors to Thailand. (TNA)
