Russia, Vietnam agree on simplified Cam Ranh port entry for Russian warships

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. Russia and Vietnam have signed an intergovernmental agreement on the simplified entry of Russian warships to Vietnam’s Cam Ranh port, a source in the Russian Defence Ministry told TASS on Thursday. “The agreement was signed in Sochi on November 25 during the Russian visit of Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyễn Phú Trọng. The procedure sets the requirement for Russian vessels that are approaching the Vietnamese port only to notify its authorities for entry,” said the source. The entry permission is given automatically in response to notification. He said Vietnam is the second country with which Russia has such agreement. “Russia had signed a similar agreement many years ago with Syria on Russian Navy ships and vessels’ Tartus port entry. However, Russia has also another agreement with Syria on the sustainment centre of the Russian Navy in Tartus. Russia so far has no such agreement with Vietnam,” the source said. According to him, the document signing will be discussed at future bilateral negotiations. Read more
