Russia Welcomes Collaboration In Nuclear Development - Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Russian Ambassador to Malaysia, Valery N. Yermolov says Russia welcomes collaboration in nuclear plant and energy development. He said Russia had rich experience in those areas and its specialists and technologies were being used by many countries worldwide. "Recently, we constructed a nuclear plant in Vietnam and we know that Malaysia is also very interested in developing nuclear industry by itself. "I would also like to stress that Russian technologies are very safe, comprehensive, used by many countries and most importantly, our technology is cheaper than the ones offered by other countries," he said here, Wednesday. Meanwhile, Yermolov said Russia also looked forward to enhancing the existing good relations with Malaysia, particularly in the military field. He said so far, the Malaysian air force had successfully used Russian fighters, namely MiG-29 and Sukhoi. "We should not concentrate only on trade purchases of arms...thus, we offer to invite Malaysia's military men to Russian military institutions and academies," he added. On a different note, Yermolov said during the 10th East Asia Summit (EAS) later this year, Russia would focus on some issues such as maintaining stability in the South East region, energy and food security. "As a partner to ASEAN, Russia will discuss these main issues in the summit," he noted. --BERNAMA
