Russian, Chinese Defence Ministers to hold meeting on military-technical cooperation

ST.PETERSBURG, June 30. /TASS/. Defence Ministers of Russia and China Sergey Shoigu and Chang Wanquan will discuss on Tuesday the issues of international security and military-technical cooperation at the bilateral meeting "on the sidelines" of the meeting of the defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member-countries in St.Petersburg, head of the Russian Defence Ministry’s press service Major General Igor Konashenkov told reporters. "The meeting will take place ‘on the sidelines’ of the meeting of the SCO Defence Ministers. They will discuss the current state and prospects of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation," Konashenkov said. The participants in the meeting - to be be chaired by Sergey Shoigu - will discuss, in particular, the consolidation of efforts to adequately respond to new challenges and threats in the organization’s area of responsibility. "A separate topic for discussion will be practical measures aimed at consolidating the organization’s available forces and means to ensure peace and stability in the region," the head of the press service said. An exchange of views on the pressing issues of international and regional security is planned as well, Konashenkov noted. The meeting will bring together the delegations of the six SCO member-countries (Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and also representatives of the SCO secretariat and its Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
