Russian, Chinese defense ministers sign memo on military archives’ cooperation

BEIJING, November 23. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his Chinese counterpart, Chang Wanquan, have signed a memorandum on cooperation between the two countries’ military archives, Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Anatoly Antonov, told reporters on Wednesday. "In accordance with the agreements that have been reached, the two sides are planning to step up cooperation between the archival services of the two countries’ armed forces," he said. Antonov stressed that during the talks held earlier in the day the two ministers discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral military cooperation. "Both parties paid particular attention to the joint combat training events, mutual visits of warships, training military personnel and International Army Games competitions to be held in China in 2017. The ministers also exchanged views on the situation in crisis-stricken regions and Northeast Asia," he said. According to Antonov, Shoigu noted during the talks that close bilateral military cooperation between Russia and China is not directed against other countries. It poses no threat to them but contributes to peace and stability on the Eurasian continent and beyond. He added that Shoigu and Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, Xu Qiliang, chaired the 21st meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation earlier on Wednesday. "During the meeting the parties discussed in detail the results of work during the past year and identified high-priority tasks for the coming period," he said. Read more
