Russian, Chinese military cooperation aimed against new threats - Defence Ministry

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/. The military cooperation between Russia and China is aimed at improvement of the joint potential of counteracting new threats and challenges, Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov told reporters on Monday following negotiations between Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and China's Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Fan Changlong. "The Chinese counterparts confirmed common positions on the problem of challenges and threats," he said. "They said it necessary to change the current world order, to refrain from double standards and to improve equal and mutually advantageous relations in the world." The parties spoke during the negotiations about the positive "practical use" of the Joint Sea 2014 Russian-Chinese drills in the waters of the East China Sea, and the Peace Mission anti-terrorist drills of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). "In May and August we plan two Russia-China naval drills in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Sea of Japan," the deputy defence minister said. "We believe it also important to continue the dialogue between the general headquarters, including on the positions regarding the anti-missile defence." He said the Chinese military delegation visited the National Centre for Control of the Russian Federation’s defence. They learned about the purposes and work of the Centre. A new direction of cooperation was participation of the Chinese military in the tank biathlon and in the "aviation darts," which the Russian military organised in 2014, he said. "As the Chinese friends analysed their participation, now they plan to take part in all the twelve military competitions." The Russian Defence Ministry has invited the Chinese counterparts to participate in the Army-2015 International Military-Technical Forum, due near Moscow in June. The deputy defence minister also mentioned successful development of cultural cooperation between the armed forces of Russia and China. In 2014, the Russian Army Ensemble toured four Chinese cities. "We are waiting for a return visit of the ensemble of the Chinese Armed Forces." Russia’s Central Museum of the Armed Forces opened in May in China’s Nanjing, and on May 8 the Museum in Moscow opened the a Memorial Museum of Nanjing an exhibition devoted to the Soviet pilots, who fell in the anti-Japan war. "In September, we shall open an exhibition of the Grekov studio works in the Museum of China’s Army, where the exposition will be devoted to end of World War II," he said. Read more
