Russian companies to enjoy privileges during Syria reconstruction - MP

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Russian companies will have special privileges in orders for works related to the reconstruction of Syria’s infrastructure facilities, Russian MP Alexander Yushchenko said after talks with Syria’s Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi on Wednesday. "During the further reconstruction of Syria, which will be under control of the government, priority will be given to Russian companies. No countries that have been somehow involved in aggression against Syria will be allowed to participate economically in the republic’s restoration," Yuschenko, a State Duma deputy of the Communist Party, told TASS by phone. The war that began in Syria in 2011 has destroyed the country’s key infrastructure facilities, namely the oil and gas complex and electric power sector, and a large part of wheat producing areas has been seized. Syria needs Russia’s support mainly in these areas, the lawmaker said. "The prime minister and the government are already preparing a joint plan for restoring the republic," Yushchenko stressed.
