Russian developer of equipment for Mistrals ready to adapt it to Egypt’s needs

MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/. Russia’s United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) that develops and manufactures telecommunications equipment and automated control systems is ready to adapt the equipment it made for the Mistrals helicopter carriers, built in France initially at an order from the Russian Navy, to the needs of any foreign customer including Egypt, an official spokesman for the UIMC told TASS. "If we get an appropriate decision by the government, we’re ready to adapt the systems of telecommunications and control (installed on the Mistrals) to the demands of a foreign customer, including Egypt," he said. Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov said earlier on the same day the potential buyer - Egypt - could get the Russian equipment the ships were fitted out with. A high-rank source in the weaponry trading system responded to this by saying Cairo had not shown any interest to the Russian equipment on the helicopter carriers. Reports on a French-Egyptian agreement regarding the Mistrals came on Wednesday. The dismantling of the Russian equipment on the ships began in the first days of the week. Read more
