Russian, Pakistani diplomats discuss issues of control over weapons and non-proliferation

MOSCOW, April 26. /TASS/. Russia and Pakistan are set to further develop cooperation in the interests of strategic stability in the region, the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday after a meeting of the Russian-Pakistani consultative group on strategic stability. The meeting was held in Islamabad and was co-chaired by the two countries’ deputy foreign ministers, Sergei Ryabkov of Russia and Tasnim Aslam of Pakistan. "The talks addressed a range of issues of international control over weapons and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction," the ministry said. "The sides confirmed their commitment to further constructive cooperation in the interests of strengthening global and regional strategic stability." "The sides noted the necessity of building such an architecture in this sphere that would guarantee observance of the principle of equal and indivisible security of all states," the ministry said. "Bearing in mind the positive development of relations between Russia and Pakistan, the sides reached an agreement to coordinate their actions in international formats, first of all in the United Nations, on the basis of common interests of the two countries with an aim of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation," the Russian foreign ministry noted. Apart from that, Ryabkov was received by Special Assistant to Pakistani Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
