Russian PM to visit Thailand April 7-8

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is scheduled to pay a two-day official visit to Thailand from April 7-8, aimed at strengthening cordial relations and deepening cooperation between Moscow and Bangkok for mutual benefits. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports on its official website that Medvedev will be the first Russian Prime Minister to officially visit Thailand in 25 years. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who has invited his Russian counterpart to visit Thailand as the guest of his government, is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart in Bangkok on April 8. Based on the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement, issues on promoting bilateral ties and cooperation between Moscow and Bangkok in all dimensions will be raised during the Russian and Thai premiers' meeting, including those in political, economic, energy and cultural spheres, focused particularly on ways to boost bilateral trade on both farm and industrial products, investment and joint projects of their state enterprises and private firms. Besides, the two leaders will discuss regional and international issues of mutual interests. After the bilateral meeting, the Russian and Thai prime ministers will witness the signing of bilateral agreements in various fields, including energy, culture and tourism. The Thai prime minister will then host a luncheon in honour of his Russian counterpart and his entourage. During Medvedev's stay in Thailand, memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on cooperation in machinery engineering and advance navigation technologies will also be signed by the Russian and Thai private sectors to become frameworks for further business cooperation between concerned Russian and Thai firms, paving the way for further increase in overall bilateral trade and investment between Russia and Thailand in the future.
