Russian, Thai prime ministers hold talks, plan to discuss economic ties

BANGKOK, April 8. /TASS/. The talks of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-ocha began in Bangkok after an official ceremony on Wednesday. Medvedev met with ambassadors of foreign states accredited in Thailand and then exchanged gifts with Chan-ocha. He presented the Thai prime minister a painting depicting a snow-covered town and invited him to visit Russia. The prime ministers started negotiations in a narrow format. Chan-ocha reminded that in two years Moscow and Bangkok will mark the 120th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. He called on his Russian counterpart to "build relations for the further 120 years." The Thai prime minister said he wished to discuss with Medvedev the issues of cooperation in the sphere of trade and investments. He noted that Russia is seeking to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, adding that Moscow and Bangkok "need to carefully look at the cooperation as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)." Chan-ocha expressed hope that any problems in bilateral relations if they exist may be resolved and asked Medvedev to send good wishes to President Vladimir Putin. "We are thankful that Russia is providing support for our government," he said. Read more
