BANGKOK, July 17 (TNA) - The South African Embassy in Bangkok has organised a charity event at a children’s home on the Thai capital's outskirts, as part of its celebrations of the Nelson Mandela International Day 2015, which falls on every July 18. The United Nations has designated July 18, the day Nelson Mandela was born, the Nelson Mandela International Day, in remembrance of the first coloured South African president who fought for peace, justice and democracy. For 67 years, Mandela has devoted his life for the service of humanity and in celebrations of the Nelson Mandela International Day, all around the world is encouraged to devote 67 minutes of their time to help others to relive Mandela’s legacy to the world. This year, the South African Embassy to Thailand decided to devote its 67 minutes to celebrate the Nelson Mandela International Day by entertaining disabled children at the Camillian Children’s Home in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang District. South African Ambassador to Thailand, Her Excellency Ruby Marks led a group of embassy staff and South African nationals living in Thailand to organise various activities for the disabled children at the children’s home on July 16. The staff spent 67 minutes on each activity, including wall paintings, fun and games and storytelling, after which the embassy also presented donations. The ambassador said late former South African president Mandela has been known as the Father of the Republic of South Africa (RSA), as he had brought the entire nation together under a strong foundation of peace, justice and true democracy. According to the South African top envoy, Mandela loved children whom he thought the future of the next generations and the South African Embassy in Bangkok, thus, organised the activities to entertain the children while marking this year's Nelson Mandela International Day.
