Safety measures intensified at mass rail systems in Greater Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - Safety measures have been heightened at all mass rail transit systems in Bangkok and its peripheral areas, after a pregnant woman was killed instantly by an electric train at an Airport Rail Link station on the outskirts of Bangkok. Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith told journalists that he has instructed all agencies concerned to intensify public safety measures at all mass rail transit systems in Greater Bangkok, including those of skytrains, underground trains and Airport Rail Link, following the fatal incident on June 19. Arkhom stressed that all the relevant agencies have been ordered to specially take care of the safety of passengers at open platforms of the electric train services, in addition to the deployment of security personnel at all the platforms. According to the minister, the installation of barriers at the open platforms must be carried out by next year's deadline as earlier set. On early Monday, the 31-year-old pregnant woman fell down on the rail track at the Ban Thap Chang Station Station of the Airport Rail Link System near Bangkok's Hua Mak area and was run over to dead by a speedy approaching train.
