Saif bin Zayed launches international award for Police Ideas

Abu Dhabi, 22 January 2015 (WAM): H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, launched ‘The Ministry of Interior’s Award for Creative Policing Ideas – Policing Ideas.’ The Award will honour the top three ideas in fields that serve police work around the world. In a statement, Sheikh Saif said, "The wise leadership and government of the UAE continuously strive to pursue new endeavours in creativity and leadership in a variety of fields. They also believe in the importance of teamwork on both local and global scales, to contribute to creating a more stable and secure world, and to the provision of prosperous opportunities for the people through the exchange of creative experiences and expertise. Thus, we shall honour those who have shown creativity and who have excelled in developing policing services for all nations." "Our federal government firmly believes in the importance of working towards creating the ideal environment for continuous development and modernisation based on the unremitting drive to be creative and innovative. Such an environment will thus empower further creative approaches and developments to meet the needs of the community, instil the spirit of cooperation, and build teamwork by transforming the routine culture of work into a creative culture that lives up to today’s requirements across all fields," Sheikh Saif added. He expressed hope that the Award would achieve its intended objectives, to the benefit of all mankind and of the ties that have been formed between nations and peoples: "We are all brothers in this great human society, and we aspire to achieve further progress and prosperity under the wings of the nation’s leaders. May God bless them, grant them success and keep them safe." The launch of the Award was announced Wednesday morning in a press conference held by the Ministry of Interior at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), by Major General Dr. Abdul Quddous Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Quality and Excellence Affairs and Head of the Sheikh Khalifa Government Excellence Programme's Team at the Ministry of Interior. The press conference was attended by Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministry of Interior’s Excellence Awards Committee. Major General Al Obaidli explained the importance, objectives, standards, and fields of the Award alongside the eligibility to receive the award. Major General Al Obaidly said, "The new Award draws its uniqueness from addressing all individuals and institutions around the world in order to fully benefit from the creative experiences and ideas that empower security and stability, and improve the system of police work to the highest levels." Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to adopt the clear directions of the Minister of Interior, to continuously pursue new methods of development and modernisation. He noted that the Ministry of Interior looks beyond the traditional and routine methods by implementing modern approaches that are consistent with the reputation, development, and distinction of the UAE in many fields. He explained that the award will attract the top creative ideas and projects from all over the world designed to serve the community and boost police performance. To this end, the ministry will be offering substantial cash prizes to the winners in a bid to encourage competition and motivate them to provide the best creative and applicable ideas. The Award embodies the strategy of the Ministry of Interior to motivate staff members working at the ministry, government and private sectors to exhibit further creativity, excellence, and innovation. Additionally, the Award develops the creative sense of the public in a proactive manner, encouraging them to actively participate in the development of their industry and the quality of services, and to enhance cooperation between the police organisation and the various segments of society. Through next July, the Awards Secretariat based in the capital, Abu Dhabi, will begin to receive nominations, in accordance with the rules and procedures of the Award, via the website: (http://uaeinnovation.ae/policing_creative_ideas_award/). Every two years, a conference will be held in December under the patronage of His Highness, the Minister of Interior. Officials from police and security forces from around the world will be invited. The names of the winners will be announced and they will be honoured at the conference. Following the conference, the winning projects will be released and implemented. Major General Al Obaidli said, "This Award seeks to share the best practices and creative ideas that have been implemented within the policing fields of international police departments. It also aims to attract the best practices and creative ideas related to police and security. This will not only develop these fields on local and global levels, but it will also create a more competitive environment for security agencies and institutions and build partnerships with the entities working in innovation and creativity fields." The Award includes 10 areas for potential entries: creativity in criminal matters, traffic, modern technologies, customer service, economic security, environment (green applications), human resources, social initiatives, support of human rights, and security and justice.
