Samui Festival 2016 opens

SURAT THANI, Jan 24 (TNA) -- The Samui Festival 2016 opens early Sunday with a lively atmosphere as more than 5,000 Thai and foreign runners took part in the charity event . Surat Thani provincial governor Wongsiri Phromchana presided over the ceremony for the people to start running which started from Nathon pier of Ko Samui. Several neighbouring provinces and agencies have jointly organised the Samui Festival 2016 with an objective to promote tourism of the southern island. Also, Nartwimol Phromchana, chief of the Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Surat Thani, along with Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paripatra jointly opened the ‘Givers Run and Ride’, part of the Samui Festival 2016, in which more than 1,000 Thai and foreign cyclists participated. Several exciting activities are to be held later Sunday. They include a display of art and culture while Thai boxing and musical concert will be held in the evening. (TNA)
