Satellites Detect 16 Hotspots In Riau

Pekanbaru, May 23 (ANTARA) - The US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) satellite has detected 16 hotspots in Riau province, according to the Pekanbaru station of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). An analyst, Sanya Gautami, announced on Wednesday that the hotspots were spread across the seven districts of Bengkalis, Siak, Kampar, Pelalawan, Indragiri Hulu, Indragiri Hilir and Kuantansingingi. "Four hotspots were found in Kuantansingingi, while two hotspots per district were found in Bengkalis, Siak, Kampar, Pelalawan, Indragiri Hulu and Indragiri Hilir," Sanya explained. She said that hotspots are caused by hot weather in several areas in Riau province. "The temperature in Riau reached 35 degrees Celsius. BMKG has predicted that the hot weather will continue until the end of May." In addition, BMKG hopes that the people throughout Sumatra, especially in Riau province, will avoid torching the land.
