SCO and CIS general prosecutors to discuss fighting against terrorism and drug trafficking in Astana

ASTANA, August 27. /TASS/. General prosecutors of SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) countries will hold the 13th session today in Astana with participation of SCO Secretary General Dmitry Mezentsev. The 25th session of Coordination Council of general prosecutors (CCGP) of member countries of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) will also take place in the Kazakhstani capital on Thursday. Russia will be represented by General Prosecutor Yury Chaika. On Wednesday, Chaika held a meeting with his Kazakhstani counterpart Askhat Daulbayev. According to Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor’s Office, they discussed "wide range of issues of increasing efficiency of cooperation between general prosecutor’s offices in the framework of SCO and CCGP CIS." Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor’s Office told TASs that general prosecutors of SCO member countries will exchange experience in the sphere of fighting against crime and discuss possible solutions to common problems of fighting illegal movement across the borders of SCO countries of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors. CIS general prosecutors will also discuss their experience in fighting against corruption, securing coordinated measures of prosecutorial control over law and order in transport, and countering manifestations of extremism and terrorism. "The rate of crime, investigative and prosecutorial activities, as well as practice of observing international agreements in the sphere of fighting crime in CIS member countries in 2014 will be analyzed. The Council members will give their assessments to implementation of medium-term programs in 2014 of cooperation in fighting against crime; terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism; illegal circulation of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors; and countering drug addiction, human trafficking and countering illegal migration," Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor’s Office said. The participants will also assess the work of prosecutorial authorities in the sphere of citizens’ rights, implementation of international agreements on fighting against crime in 2014, as well as develop measures to improve cooperation. Among issues reviewed at the session will also be: results of fulfilling the plan of work for Coordination Council for 2014-2018, CCGP Secretariat’s report, working plan for the Council on implementing the program of cooperation in countering illegal migration for 2015-2019.
