SCW holds lecture on protection against domestic violence

Manama, May 2 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW)'s General Secretariat, in collaboration with Bahraini Women Union (BWU), has staged a lecture on protection of domestic violence. SCW Legal Advisor Dr. Mohammed Al-Masri and BWU member lawyer Shazlan Khamis addressed the lecture. Dr. Al-Masri presented a visual presentation of the national strategy for the protection against domestic violence which is an extension of the national plan for the advancement of Bahraini women. He reviewed the goals of the national strategy for the protection against domestic violence. He stressed on holding awareness programmes against domestic violence through enhancing the role of media. He noted the importance of engaging policemen, Public Prosecution and shelter centers' staff in training programmes on the implementation of related laws. lawyer Shazlan Khamis said that the law of the protection against violence is guaranteed by the constitution. She called for widening the concept of the law to include all forms of exploitation, physical, psychological and sexual abuses, or the threat to use any of them. She called on civil community institutions to work in collaboration with the SCW for the activation of the national strategy for the protection against domestic violence.
