SCW strategy to protect women from violence highlighted

Manama, Feb. 1 (BNA): Family and social stability featured among Bahrain’s national priorities, said Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Secretary-General Hala Al Ansari. She hailed Bahraini’s strides, supported by legislations and policies that promote gender balance and women’s active participation in national development. Al Ansari was addressimg a wokshop hosted by the Cairo-based Arab Parliament under the theme “Draft Law For Combating Violence Against Women”. She underlined the SCW-led strategy to protect women from domestic violence in partnership with experts and competent authorities. She cited the enactment of laws and legislations on combating domestic violence against women, the establishement of family protection offices at police stations countrywide, in addition to a child prosecution and a national statistical database. Al Ansari noted that international reports have revealed a surge of violence against women worlwide since the outbreak of the pandemic, stressing the importance of activating systems to monitor cases of violence against women on scientific and methodological bases.
