Sea off limit at Samila Beach

SONGKHLA, Feb 27 (TNA) -- Tourists continue to crowd over the Samila Beach in the Thai southern Songkhla province this weekend, despite unfavouring weather and strong waves. Authorities have put up reg flags to prevent tourists from taking a dip in the sea, as one of the most popular beaches in Songkhla remained to be packed with tourists. The Songkhla Municipal Office has flied red flags along the beach to completely prohibit all visitors from going near the sea as they could be at risk of being swept away by the strong waves. The office has also mobilised more authorities into the risk area to beef up security and safety for tourists, especially near the Mermaid statue on Chalatad Beach, which is usually crowded with visitors taking pictures as souvenirs. The Southern Meteorological Centre (East Coast), meanwhile, has continued to advise small boats to stay anchored ashore, as the weather would remain to fluctuate with waves as high as 2-4 metres. Residents residing along the beaches are also warned to be vigilant against the strong waves battering in land until tomorrow. (END)
