Second-hand winter jackets sold like hot cakes in several Thai areas

BANGKOK, November 15 (TNA) - As this year's cold weather is arriving, used winter jackets are now selling like hot cakes in several Thai areas although their sales came later than usual due to vast flooding. Sombat Juengtrakul, vice president of a Thai-Cambodian border traders and tourism association in Thailand's eastern Chantaburi Province, said on Tuesday that the good sales of second-hand winter jackets and blankets at Thai-Cambodian border markets in Chantaburi started on November 12, one month later than usual. Sombat acknowledged that floods have been receding in several areas and traders from other provinces have started to place their orders for used blankets and winter jackets, with the purchase orders having exceeded three million baht daily, over one million baht increase from last year’s. According to the vice president of the provincial border traders association, several buyers have also come from Cambodia's Pailin and Battambang Provinces, boosting the total value of second-hand blanket and winter jacket sales in Chantaburi to have normally reached over 20 million baht annually. In Thailand's northeastern Khon Kaen Province, a local trader said used winter jackets have been sold well, generating some 10,000-20,000 baht daily revenues for the shop. In Khon Kaen, second-hand winter jackets are retailed at 50-1,000 baht per unit. Thailand's winter is expected to be prolonged this year due to vast flooding in dozens of provinces, including Greater Bangkok. (TNA)
