Secondary schools receive scholarships

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With aims to improve training quality of primary education and to promote the implementation of a core programme, 200 secondary schools have received a scholarships of 3,000 US dollars each. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sciences L.Gantomor gave the scholarships on Monday to authorities of these schools which have been selected out of 400 schools of all provinces and nine districts of the city. “We intend to support the secondary schools in improving their training environment and facilities. In the first turn, the money has gone to those who accurately determined their goals. The six million Togrog will help each of them to build up a new laboratory and training chambers,” the Minister said, adding the next scholarships will be given to 1,000 schools. The selection was based on projects the schools are running in lessons of Mongolian language, natural sciences and mathematics. For instance, a school of Arkhangai aimag’s Tsakhir soum worked out a project called “E-school” which aims to make IT achievements more adequate for pupils. A secondary school in Bulgan aimag’s Teshig soum worked out a project on delivering culture, customs, traditions and rituals of the Buryad people, while the city’s 87th school formulated a project on creating a chamber of natural sciences. The “Reforms of education quality” project is being implemented by the government with a soft loan from the Development Association at the World Bank.
