Security authorities take precautions in Thai far South on BRN's 53rd anniversary

BANGKOK, March 13 (TNA) - Authorities stepped up security measures in Thailand’s violence-plagued Deep South on the 53rd anniversary of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN). In Narathiwat province, local police, soldiers and administrators set up 24-hour checkpoints at important places and danger-prone areas to prevent any undesirable incidents that may happen on the BRN anniversary on Wednesday. In Yala province, local security authorities were seen conducting vehicles searches. In safety zones, people were ordered to park their vehicle next to traffic islands, instead of footpaths in front of shops. In Pattani province, soldiers, police and volunteers were seen guarding government offices and public places, but businesses continued operating as usual. In Songkhla province, intensified security measures were imposed in six districts, especially those adjacent to Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, with security authorities having searched suspicious vehicles and looked for insurgent suspects.
