Security to be tightened at govt offices following court bomb blast

BANGKOK, March 8 (TNA) - Police will step up security at key government offices in Bangkok following a Saturday night’s bomb explosion at the Criminal Court, said Bangkok police chief Police Lieutenant General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul on Sunday. He said two suspects have been apprehended and one of them was shot four times by military officials after trying to escape the arrest. The injured suspect has been sent to a hospital for treatment, while the other is being interrogated by police, he said. Police Lieutenant General Srivara said the two men rode a motorbike to the court on Saturday night and hurled a RGD5 grenade into the parking area. He said authorities initially believe the bombers intended to stir up unrest in the capital. Meanwhile, National police chief Police General Somyot Pumpunmuang said the bombing incident shows that there are still certain group of people wanting to create violence in the country. He said he has ordered police to closely cooperate with army personnel to find if they are other people involving in the incident. (TNA)
