Security to be tightened in Thai Far South during Ramadan

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Army has prepared intensified security measures in the violence-plagued Thai Far South, as the annual Ramadan month of Muslims' fasting is approaching. Thai Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr told journalists of the move on Thursday, saying that the tightened security is aimed to provide both safety and convenience for Muslims in the insurgency-affected southernmost Thai region during Ramadan. General Udomdej, who is also Thai Deputy Defence Minister, noted that the government’s policy on solutions to insurgency in the Thai Deep South, has been included on the national agenda, focused on both development and peace keeping plans, in parallel with cooperation with local people and all sectors. According to the army chief and deputy defence minister, the overall situation in the Thai Far South has gradually improved despite violence reported some times. (TNA)
