Security beefed up in Yala province after March 31 car bomb attacks

BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) - Over 500 security personnel have been deployed to ensure security at a newly setup safety zone, the second of its kind, in the heart of southern Yala province after the March 31 car bomb attacks. Yala Governor Detrat Simsiri attended a ceremony Monday to deploy over 500 security personnel comprising of soldiers, police officers and defence volunteers to secure the safety zone, which is set up in Yala municipality in Muang district. Speaking to reporters at the ceremony, the Yala governor said strict security measures would help restore peace in Yala municipality and prevent recurrence of the March 31 car bomb attacks. The measure came over a week after the two car bomb attacks that erupted on Jongrak and Ruammit roads in Yala municipality on March 31, resulting in 12 deaths, injuries to105 others, and damage to many houses, shops and properties. The second safety zone has been set up after consulting with local people. In the safety zone, checkpoints are set up to search all vehicles entering and departing the zone around the clock while traffic regulations are adjusted to facilitate security operations. (TNA)
