Security boosted in deep South

YALA, Feb 25 (TNA) - Combined government forces in the southern province of Yala have boosted security measures after the Fourth Region Army commander Lieutenant General Piyawat Nakwanich has announced that insurgents who surrender to the government would receive assistance from the state. An alleged Muslim insurgent on Friday turned himself in after eight years in hiding to Lt. Gen. Piyawat, who flew in a helicopter to pick him up in Yala’s Raman district after he called the authority to surrender. The authorities expected that more than 10 other suspected insurgents will follow the suits soon. Meanwhile, officials are concerned that more violence could erupt in response to the operations to convince more insurgents to surrender. Security officials have been asked to stay alert, especially from motorcycle bombs on six routes in Yala. Under the leniency, offered by Lt. Gen. Piyawat, suspected insurgents who surrender to the government would receive jobs after completion of the judicial process. (TNA)
