Security conference in Moscow due in April to discuss Afghanistan, Islamic State

MOSCOW, 4 March. /TASS/. The Moscow conference on security, due in April, will be devoted to international terrorism and the situation in Afghanistan, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov told a news conference at TASS on Thursday. "There are plans for raising the theme of the situation inside and around Afghanistan, the activity of the terrorist group called the Islamic State and plans for international military cooperation geared to struggle against the terrorist threat," he said. The theme of struggle against international terrorism will be on the agenda of the section meeting on April 16. Antonov said the problem of Asia was of great concern for many countries. "The problem of the terrorist threat is crucial to the Asia-Pacific Region," Antonov remarked. The other section meeting will focus on regional security treaties and agreements, he added. The Russian Defense Ministry has decided not to invite Ukrainian representatives to a security conference in Moscow, a deputy minister said. "We decided not to aggravate the situation at the conference and not to invite our Ukrainian colleagues," Anatoly Antonov told a news conference at TASS. Read more
