Security tightened around Thai Rath office following attack

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Police have beef up security measures around the office of Thai Rath, Thailand’s bestselling newspaper, in Bangkok’s Chatuchak area after its security guard box was attacked by firecrackers early Saturday morning. Four men on two motorcycles threw firecrackers and petanque balls at a security box in front of the office, smashing the security guard box’s glass window. No one was hurt in the attack. Thai Police Commissioner Police General Adul Saengsing-kaeo went to inspect the attack scene early Sunday and ordered for a tighter security around the office of Thai Rath newspaper. The motive for the Saturday’ morning attack is still unknown, though most suspect it could be politically motivated. Meanwhile, forensics Police continued collecting evidence left at the scene for processing. They said all closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) were broken when the incident occurred. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thoopkrajang will call a meeting with the investigative unit Monday to follow up on the case. (TNA)
