Security Tightened at French Embassy, VIP Residences in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Nov 15 (TNA) - Security at the French embassy in Bangkok as well as at offices and residences of prominent persons has been tightened following coordinated deadly attacks in Paris late Friday which have left at least 129 people died and more than 300 others wounded. Pol. Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn, acting Bangkok police chief, said although the French embassy in the Thai capital did not request for extraordinary security after the attacks, he had ordered police to stay on high alert at the embassy and other important places in the capital. Pol. Lt. Gen. Sanit said he planned to visit significant tourist destinations in Bangkok to boost morale of foreign tourists and areas where the French are staying. So far, there were no signs of terrorism acts in Thailand, he said. Royal Thai Navy chief Admiral Na Areenit told Thai News Agency that he had ordered the Royal Thai Navy to cooperate with related government agencies in providing safety to human lives and property following Friday’s attacks in Paris. Meanwhile, Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul reiterated that no Thai victims staying in Paris were reported in the attacks at multiple locations. During the first half this year, 103,315 Thai tourists visited France while 589,549 French visitors came to Thailand, according to figures released by the ministry. (TNA)
