Security tightened in Thailand's Hat Yai for safety

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - Thai security operatives have tightened their defense in the southern district of Hat Yai, near Malaysia, on the first anniversary of the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel bombings. Intelligence reports said there could be insurgency movements in the country’s troubled Southern region as the Thai New Year festival nears in April, a time during which tourists throng to celebrate the festival in large numbers, especially from Malaysia and Singapore. Three people were killed and up to a hundred others wounded in the bombing at Lee Gardens Plaza on March 31, 2012, while some 200 vehicles were damaged. One of the three suspects accused for the attack have been apprehended while the rest is still at large. (TNA)
