Serbian daily to introduce Iranian scholars, poets

Belgrade, Nov 22, IRNA – Deputy Editor of Serbia’s leading newspaper Politika said he is keen to introduce celebrated Iranian poet Rumi in the daily. Petar Blagojevic made the comment in a meeting with Mahmoud Shalouei in the Iranian Embassy. Blagojevic added that “Iranian scholars, poets and writers have attractive words for people around the world. We should use this opportunity to introduce their rich thoughts.” “Iran’s cultural center in Belgrade can present comprehensive info on Rumi as well as other Iranian poets and literati to Politika which is a credible daily in Serbia. A related column in the daily will indeed have significant cultural and scientific results,” he added. For his part, the Iranian official warmly welcomed the suggestion and said that although Rumi's works are composed in Persian, his poems are enjoyed by readers from all over the world. Politika is a Serbian daily newspaper, published in Belgrade. Founded in 1904 by Vladislav F. Ribnikar, it is the oldest daily newspaper still in circulation in the Balkans and is considered the newspaper of record. Iranian and Bulgarian officials have taken several steps towards broadening cultural ties. In September vice-chancellor of Sofia College of library science met with Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati. During their meeting Jannati had said that Tehran is ready to expand cultural cooperation through exchange of academic delegations and holding cultural exhibitions. Elsewhere, early in November, Bulgarian Embassy in Iran had voiced readiness to hold a cultural week in Iran./end
