Series of events marking 20th anniversary of Khojaly massacre conducted in Kuwait

Baku, February 23 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan Embassy in Kuwait organizes series events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, one of the bloodiest tragedies of the XX century. According to the Embassy, a painting exhibition called “Khojaly through the eyes of children” opened in the secondary school of Sabah Al-Salem, is a suburb several kilometres south of the capital, Kuwait City. Addressing the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Azerbaijani ambassador Tural Rzayev updated visitors on barbarism committed by Armenian armed forces supported by post soviet army in Khojaly town and the true essence of the tragedy. The exhibition will last till Monday. A press conference attended by Tural Rzayev and representatives of mass media in the Azerbaijan Embassy to the country was organized on Tuesday. “Armenian military forces committed genocides in the town of Khojaly with the population of 7 thousand on February 26, 1992,” Azerbaijani ambassador said. He also said the Khojaly genocide was given political and legal assessment after national leader Heydar Aliyev came to power in 1993. Stressing the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mr. Rzayev noted that Azerbaijan has enough military strength to solve the problem. The ambassador also expressed gratitude for the support to Kuwait`s nation and government. Book “Khojaly tragedy” published in Arabian language and initiated and supported by Azerbaijan Embassy, CD version of the film dealing with the bloody event, press statement were presented to journalists. Articles on the Khojaly genocide were printed in different newspapers, such as Al-Watan, Al-Wasat, Al-Shaheed, Al-Anbaa and Al Yaum on Wednesday. Appeal of Khojaly inhabitants to the world countries, the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was translated into Arabian and distributed to Kuwait`s state and governmental bodies, parliament, international organizations in the country and mass media. The Friendship Society “Patriot” will today organize a commemorative event attended by embassy`s employee, activist of Azerbaijani Diaspora and Kuwaiti citizens.
