Several ATMs bombed in Thai South

BANGKOK, October 9 (TNA) – Suspected insurgents early Wednesday planted bombs which had damaged more than 20 automatic teller machines (ATMs) in the four violence-plagued southern provinces, officials said. Initially, security officials believed Runda Kumpulan Kecil militant group were responsible for the ATMs bombs in Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces as the group disagreed with the ongoing peace talks between Thai security officers and Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group. They said the ATMs bombs were aimed at stirring the situation in the troubled region. Songkhla Governor Krisda Bunrat said the insurgents had planted bombs and damaged three ATMs in his province but the money was not stolen. He said a group of teenagers riding bicycles travelled past the bombed areas several times before the explosions and police are monitoring surveillance cameras installed nearby to trace their routes.
