Several Thai provinces face critical flooding

BANGKOK, September 27 (TNA) - The flooding situation in several Thai provinces has remained critical, following more downpours overnight. In Kabinburi district of Prachinburi Province in the Thai East, floodwater was as high as nearly four metres in Talad Kao community and was about one metre in outer areas on Thursday morning, after overnight rain in nearby Sa Kaeo Province, while additional-20-centimetre-floodwater was reported in Sri Mahabhodhi district, where Ban Khok Mai Daeng community was hit by flooding for the first time. People in the affected areas were waiting for flood relief assistance, namely food and drinking water, from municipal volunteers and other concerned parties. In central Thailand, water levels in Baan Mi district of Lopburi province remained stable, but affected schools remained closed until further notice due to some 50-centimetre-deep floodwater. Areas along the Pasak-Chainat Canal were more worrying, as an earth dam was collapsing and affected locals were evacuating to safe grounds. In Ubon Ratchathani province in the Thai Northeast, 503 villages in 16 districts were even declared flood-hit disaster zones, affecting over 2,000 households and 200,000 rais of local farmlands, prompting affectees in the Warin Chamrap Municipality to begin evacuating to safer places.
