Sheikh Khalifa Mosque 2nd largest in Jerusalem

Abu Dhabi (WAM); Work on The Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque being constructed in the Al Aizariya area, in the eastern suburb of Jerusalem, is almost complete. When open, the mosque, which is funded and managed by The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, will accommodate 6,000 worshippers, and will be the second largest mosque in the West Bank after Al Aqsa Mosque. In an exclusive interview with Emirates News Agency (WAM), a spokesman from the Khalifa Foundation said that work on the project has reached its final stages, and that the mosque is one of many Emirati projects being implemented in the Palestinian territories, especially in Jerusalem, where the foundation has funded schools, homes, hospitals, women's centres, orphanages and facilities for people with special needs. The official said that the five-floor grand mosque is expected to be open in time for the upcoming Eid Al Adha prayers in October and will serve more than 100,000 people living in the eastern, northern and southern parts of Ramallah, and north of Bethlehem, where several neighbourhoods and Palestinian villages are located. The spokesperson went on to say that the structure is built using natural stone, while the mosque’s mihrab (imam’s pulpit) which was imported from Turkey, is made of luminous materials which radiates light as though lit by thousands of light bulbs. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/general/1395268677007.html
