Sierra Leonean suspect found to be free from Ebola

BANGKOK, November 25 (TNA) - Thai authorities have found a Sierra Leonean man who was earlier suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus, but he has later been confirmed to be free from the deadly disease. Dr. Rungruang Kitpati, Director of the General Communicable Diseases, under the Thai Ministry of Public Health's Department of Disease Control, told journalists on Tuesday that the Sierra Leonean suspect, 31-year-old Sesay Samuel, was found at Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport while he was about to leave Thailand for Europe. Dr. Rungruang said health control authorities at the airport confirmed that the Sierra Leonean man was in good health and was not infected with Ebola. Dr. Rungruang stated that the Sierra Leonean national was, however, fined 2,000 baht for violating Thailand's Communicable Disease Act, as he did not report himself to the Thai health authorities during a required surveillance. Samuel claimed he wanted privacy and did not, thus, report himself to the health authorities as required. The Sierra Leonean visitor arrived at the Suvarnbhumi Airport on November 13 and failed to report for daily checkups required from November 16 onward. (TNA)
