Singapore Experiences Hazy Conditions

By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah SINGAPORE, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Singapore is experiencing slight to moderate hazy conditions, with Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading at 62-72, as of noon Friday. The National Environment Agency (NEA) has advised those those with heart or lung disease, children and older adults to avoid outdoor activities, whilst the rest should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. NEA noted that for the past week, an increase in hotspot activities was observed over Sumatra. The current prevailing winds blowing from the southwest or south, have caused the haze arising from from fires in southern Sumatra, in the direction of Singapore. The prevailing winds are expected to turn and blow from the southeast or south, from Friday, and bring a gradual improvement to the hazy conditions. In the following week, NEA said Singapore could still experience slight hazy conditions on some days. -- BERNAMA
