Six more stranded Thais in Indonesia return home

BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) - The second group of six Thai fishing workers who were stranded on the Indonesian Ambon Island have safely arrived in Thailand and received further assistance from the Thai government. Rescued by Thai authorities, the six Thai fishing workers boarded AirAsia's flight QZ252 and arrived in Thailand on Wednesday night, when they were warmly welcome by their relatives and an inspector-general of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The six Thai men are natives of Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Pathum Thani, Surin, Suphan Buri and Si Sa Ket Provinces. The Thai fishing workers are considered victims of human trafficking and officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security are providing them with vocational training and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Sompong Sakaeo, director of a government center tasked with helping fishing crewmen, told journalists that the six Thai workers could not tolerate working conditions and unfair wages on their boat and they fled and worked as labor on Ambon Island while waiting for the Thai government's help. The first group of 21 Thai fishing workers from Ambon arrived in Thailand on March 27. (TNA)
