Six payung smugglers nabbed

BANGKOK, Sept 20 (TNA) - Police arrested five Cambodians and a Thai in two separate incidents in the northeastern province of Si Sa Ket bordering Cambodia and charged them of illegally possessing valuable Siamese rosewood, or Payung wood. Combined police, army personnel and Royal Forest Department officials arrested five young Cambodian men in a village of Si Sa Ket’s Kantharalak district and charged them with illegally cutting Payung trees in Thailand. Police said they also seized 16 logs of Siamese rosewood and a saw allegedly in their possession. In another incident, officials apprehended a Thai man while he was driving a pickup truck. Police said the man was charged with smuggling 53 planks of Siamese rosewood from a forest, also in Kantharalak district, and sold them to a businessman. (TNA)
