Small Fire At Restaurant Causes Panic At Suria KLCC

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- About 5,000 visitors and shoppers at Suria KLCC panicked when ordered to vacate the building after a small fire broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant on the shopping small's first floor. Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations), Azizan Ismail said there was no explosion during the fire but the big number of customers at the time caused some commotion at the restaurant. No one was injured in the 5.28pm incident. Azizan said following the fire outbreak, KLCC's security personnel ordered the crowd to vacate the building and gather outside which they did for almost an hour before being allowed to go back in. He said four fire-engines from the Pudu, Hang Tuah and Jelatek stations with 30 firemen arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and doused the fire and smoke coming out from the smoke ventilator at the roof top, while the fire in the restaurant's kitchen had already been put out by its workers. The cause of the fire was still being investigated. -- BERNAMA
