Small Vessels Not Allowed To Go To Sea

Pontianak, W Kalimantan, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Small vessels with a capacity of less than 1,000 GT were not allowed to go to the sea in Pontianak, West Kalimantan on extreme weather. "It is too risky to go to the sea with sea waves rising as high as 5 to 7 meters", Suhardi, the head of the Pontianak unit of coast guards, said here on Wednesday. Coast guards told ten small motor vessels to stay in the port of Pontianak until the condition improved. Larger vessels such as oil tankers of state owned oil company PT Pertamina, however, are allowed to sail , he said. In East Nusa Tenggara , all sea transport almost grounded to a halt over the past week with ferry ships told to stay away from the sea for the same reason. Sea transport in East Nusa Tenggara is served mainly by small ferry ships.
