Sochi to host conference on global threats to biological security - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi will host the international conference dubbed Global Threats to Biological Security on November 1-2, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Thursday. "On November 1-2, Sochi will host an international conference dubbed Global Threats to Biological Security. Problems and Solutions," she said. "More than 100 participants from 40 countries, including members of the scientific community, are expected to participate in the event, as well as international public organizations. The conference will be organized by Russia’s Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare together with the Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will represent our ministry at the conference," Zakharova added. "Participants will discuss the current situation concerning global security in light of the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction, in order to facilitate the relevant negotiation process," the Russian diplomat pointed out. "Special attention will be paid to the best practices for preventing and responding to epidemic disasters, the demonstration of means and technologies used for achieving these tasks, as well as to Russia’s experience in the development of peaceful international cooperation in this field," Zakharova said. "Besides, scientific and technical achievements related to the Convention, monitoring mechanisms and risk management will also be touched upon," she added. Read more
