Soldiers help farmer in rice harvest

YASOTHON, Nov 12 (TNA) - In line with the policy of the Thai government and the Royal Thai Army, soldiers in the northeastern province of Yasothon have helped a poor farmer in harvesting rice, enabling the farmer to save money in hiring workers on doing the job. Lieutenant Colonel Klanarong Visutkul, commander of 2nd Infantry Regiment attached to Bodindecha military camp, led soldiers and volunteers in harvesting rice in the provincial seat. The objectives of the activity were to help farmers reduce expenses and simultaneously created love and unity between the villagers and officials. After the harvest, the soldiers and volunteers joined in taking a meal with the villagers amid warm atmosphere. Lt. Col. Klanarong said his subordinates last year helped farmers harvesting rice of over 400 rai (about 160 acres) and helped them in saving money about 400,000 baht. He said soldiers at the camp are willing to assist poor farmers in harvesting rice upon request. (TNA)
