Somali students to get training in Turkey

MOGADISHU (A.A) - February 1, 2011 - Turkish ambassador in Somali capital of Mogadishu has said that students from famine-stricken Somalia would come to Turkey for education. Ambassador Cemalettin Kani Torun held a press conference at Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu. Within the scope of a project by the Directorate of Religious Affairs, the Turkish Religious Affairs Foundation (TDV) and National Education Ministry, 650 students and 50 religious officials would get training including Quran courses in Turkey. Torun said that public administrations, education and health institutions could not serve there due to civil war which continued in Somalia for 21 years. "Education is the best way to improve a country. Students who will come to Turkey from Somalia will establish a bridge of brotherhood between the two countries. They will also contribute to cultural ties between the two countries," he said.
