Some 3,000 vehicles of drunk drivers seized during Songkran

BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) -- Authorities have impounded 3,057 vehicles of drunk drivers in the past six days of road safety campaigns for this Songkran festival. Col Sirichan Nga-thong, deputy spokesperson of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said that from April 9 to 14, soldiers, police and administrative staff seized 2,361 motorcycles and 696 cars and other kinds of vehicles from drunk drivers to ensure road safety under the NCPO directive. Authorities also seized 14,880 driving licences and took legal actions against 32,400 motorcyclists and 19,916 drivers of private and public vehicles. On April 14 alone, there were 25,289 law violations by motorcyclists, 1,179 motorcycles were seized and 12,823 motorcyclists were prosecuted. On the same day, there were 41,797 offences by the drivers of public and private vehicles, 571 driving licences and 313 vehicles were seized, and 9,323 people were prosecuted. Col Sirichan also said that the NCPO appreciated Songkran festival organisers for saving water, keeping beautiful traditions and ensuring public safety in their events. (TNA)
